Belair National Park - Adventure Playground upgrades

Have your say on upgrades to the Adven­ture Playground

The much-loved con­crete tun­nels and tim­ber fort in the Adven­ture Play­ground will be retained and upgrad­ed ensur­ing the play equip­ment con­tin­ues to delight chil­dren into the future.

We’re also plan­ning on adding addi­tion­al play ele­ments as well as con­nect­ing paths and land­scap­ing to the Adven­ture Play­ground area.

We want to hear your feed­back. Tell us what you val­ue most about the cur­rent play­ground and what you would like to see added or improved.

We will incor­po­rate the community’s feed­back into the design of the upgrades.

Pend­ing the com­ple­tion of the design phase, it is like­ly that con­struc­tion will com­mence in mid-2027.

Upgrades com­plet­ed in 2025

A pop­u­lar sec­tion of the Adven­ture Play­ground in the park was upgrad­ed and opened to the pub­lic in time for the Decem­ber 2025 school holidays. 

The pre­vi­ous met­al-framed play­ground has been replaced with a new play­ground improv­ing vis­i­tor expe­ri­ence, decreas­ing safe­ty risks and min­imis­ing ongo­ing maintenance.

The new play­ground includes three slides, a climb­ing rope pyra­mid, mon­key bars, three swings, a rock-climb­ing wall, an emu rock­er and more!

The design fea­tures improved acces­si­bil­i­ty with mul­ti­ple acces­si­ble play ele­ments includ­ing a tram­po­line, nest swing, spin­ner, com­mu­ni­ca­tion board and xylophone. 

It’s locat­ed in the mid­dle of the pic­nic area and cen­tred around an exist­ing tree. Chil­dren and fam­i­lies can enjoy the new play­ground in the expan­sive pic­nic area and shade of the tow­er­ing gum trees. The loca­tion has been select­ed to align with the con­tours of the land to allow for bet­ter accessibility. 

Nat­ur­al colours and tim­ber have been cho­sen to suit the nat­ur­al sur­round­ings and play­ful native ani­mal ele­ments have been includ­ed in the design for chil­dren to discover.

What about the con­crete play tun­nels and wood­en fort?

The beloved play tun­nels and fort sec­tions of the park have remained unchanged. 

The tun­nels, fort and nature play sec­tions of the play­ground have been iden­ti­fied for poten­tial future upgrades, sub­ject to fund­ing. Future fund­ing will be con­sid­ered along­side oth­er nation­al park priorities. 

The Depart­ment plans to engage with the com­mu­ni­ty on any future upgrades to the play tun­nels and fort. 

Ranger tips and oth­er activ­i­ties to do in the park

  • Find Amphithe­atre Rock, a large rocky over­hang locat­ed near the south-east­ern cor­ner of the park.
  • Hire a sports oval in the west­ern sec­tion of the park and gath­er­ing a group for a giant game of crick­et or footy.
  • Hire a ten­nis court for a hit or bring along the bikes and scoot­ers for the kids.
  • For fam­i­lies with expe­ri­enced young hik­ers, ven­ture along the 6.5km Water­fall Hike where you’ll see pic­turesque rock escarp­ments around the waterfalls.
  • If you’re keen for an adven­ture and want to get active, there are ori­en­teer­ing and geo­caching oppor­tu­ni­ties in the park.
